Toby Street
Looking to hire musicians? Allow us to introduce you to Toby Street, one of two trumpet players for Riverside Brass Quintet.
Toby was introduced to the instrument at the age of 8 by his father, going on to learn with Tim Haywood and Ray Allen. Having left Trinity School, Croydon in 2009, he is now 4 years into a degree course at the Royal College of Music, where he is studying with Alistair Mackie, Paul Beniston, Mike Lovatt, Alan Thomas, Andy Crowley & Martin Shaw.
During his time at the RCM, Toby has been lucky enough to be involved with performances of Prokovief’s Symphony No. 6 under Vladimir Jurowski, Brahms’ Symphony No. 1 under Vladimir Askenazy and both Ein Alpensinfonie and Bruckner’s Symphony No. 8 under Bernard Haitink.
Professionally, Toby was recently placed on the extras list at the Philharmonia Orchestra, where performances have included Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 at the Royal Festival Hall. He has also performed Holst’s The Planets with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra. Other engagements have included performing Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring at the 2012 BBC Proms with the Aldeburgh World Orchestra.
Toby’s solo performances include recording morning service on BBC radio, the Neruda Trumpet Concerto at the Royal Albert Hall’s ‘Elgar Room’ and the Hummel Trumpet Concerto with the Bromley Youth Symphony Orchestra.
It is worth mentioning that Toby is a skilled arranger and has penned many unique interpretations of popular songs as well as national anthems, jazz standards and classical favourites especially for Riverside Brass Quintet. Some of these can be heard on our website, as well as on the quintet’s debut CD, Riverside’s Yuletide.
