2012 Archive

Here is a selection of highlights from our professional engagements, 2012:

  • Olympic events
  • Eurostar, King’s Cross St Pancras

We were so excited to be a part of the Olympic Games as they arrived in London this summer. We were invited by Eurostar to spend two mornings at St Pancras International Station, where we played fanfares for the departure of both Olympians and Paralympians from a really successful games. It was great to meet the French and Dutch teams and play them out with anthems and national songs!

  • ‘Proms in the Garden’
  • Newport Music Society, Pembrokeshire

This was an open-air concert at Cotham Lodge, Newport, Pembrokeshire. The plan was for Concert-goers to picnic outside while we performed a varied recital with links to the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and the Olympics. It was a mini ‘Proms in the Park’ style event and, despite the threatening weather, was much enjoyed!

  • ‘Christmas Gala Concert’
  • Rhos-y-Gilwen Mansion, Pembrokeshire

Thanks to the success of our first summer outing in West Wales, we were invited to come up again during Christmas time, on this occasion for Rhos-y-Gilwen’s annual Christmas Gala Concert. Situated in the heart of Pembrokeshire, we braved torrential rain and flooding to journey from London for this exciting concert, where we shared the stage with the fabulous Tri Tenor vocal ensemble.

  • Westminster Music Service, Education Recitals
  • Our Lady of Dolours Primary School & St Mary Magdalene Primary School

2012 marked the start of our educational workshops and recitals. This education project, in partnership with Westminster Music Service, introduced children to brass instruments and the ‘brass quintet’. It was a great experience and the feedback from the school and pupils was really positive. If you get a chance, do check out the lovely drawings that were done for us in the Reviews section.

Various engagements:

  • London, Gloucestershire, Hampshire & Suffolk!

We are a very flexible group of musicians who can tailor performances for any event. We performed at a number of weddings during 2012, both during the service and providing music for receptions/wedding breakfast. We were particularly honoured to play at a 60th Wedding Anniversary and have even played at birthday parties!

As well as our debut Christmas recital at Rhos-y-Gilwen, we were very busy over Christmas at the following engagements:

  • Christmas Market, Essex
  • Roehampton University Christmas Market, London
  • Festive Entertainment, Heathrow Xpress
  • Guest appearance with Teddington Choral Society, Middlesex
  • Venn Street Records Christmas Party, Clapham
  • Christmas Concert, Southwark Cathedral
  • Carols by Candlelight, Highgate

Christmas 2012 was a fantastic time for Riverside Brass Quintet. It was during the previous festive period that we made our debut performance at Venn Street Records. This inspired us to create a Christmas-based album of popular music, Riverside’s Yuletide, and it was our pleasure to feature it in these concerts at the end of 2012. We were very glad to be invited back to Southwark Cathedral and Venn Street Records but also to engage in new ventures across London, Essex and Pembrokeshire! It’s never too early to organise a Christmas Event – to find out more about our Christmas Entertainment Package, do contact us.
